About Us

Vínculo Animal PR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to eradicating cruelty against animals and defending the rights of all sentient beings.

After 5 years of investigative work, advocacy, education, and manifestations, in 2023 we achieved, with the participation of other groups and individuals, the permanent closure of the Mayagüez Zoo in Puerto Rico.

This act, which resulted in the largest animal relocation in the United States and its territories, shows us that we can achieve concrete goals for the benefit of animals. This achievement is accompanied by reviews of public policy and a transformation in the way our society views and treats animals. At the same time, the relocation of animals from the confinement center in Cambalache, Arecibo, was added. In this space, animals seized by the government were kept under conditions of extreme cruelty.

Stopping and closing these spaces of terror are our first victories.

Achieving multispecies justice is our primary objective. We are ready to work to achieve it.

Mission

We promote the defense of animal rights with an ecofeminist and multidisciplinary perspective through education, legal work, advocacy, public policies, and the development of alliances.

Vision

We recognize that animal advocacy, as well as their freedom and the abolition of exploitation and mistreatment, are key components of multispecies coexistence. Puerto Rico needs a society that recognizes the dignity of animals in all areas, including their physical, psychological, and social well-being.

We want a compassionate society that respects and defends the dignity of animal life. This means that we aspire to a coexistence where animals are not used as tools for work, objects for display, entertainment, or experimentation. Animal dignity, like human dignity, is inviolable.

We want to build and sustain efforts that transform the practices and ideas that still dominate about animals. To achieve this, we need to add voices, individuals, and alliances. We are a pack calling on others to provoke change in favor of animals.
